Kitchen Countertops: Why Granite is Right for You

Granite countertops have been a staple in kitchen design trends for what seems like decades, and this shouldn’t come as a surprise. If you just started thinking about redesigning your kitchen, or if you’re beginning to plan a kitchen remodeling project, then it’s a good time to think about granite countertops and evaluate their place in your plans.

Because they’re so popular, there’s a good chance that part of the reason why you may feel inclined to choose granite for your kitchen countertops is because you’ve seen them in the kitchens of many of your friends and family. Furthermore, you were probably blown away by how beautiful and luxurious it looks! If that’s the case, let’s get specific. Here’s why granite kitchen countertops are right for you:

Durability

Durability is one of the primary reasons that granite is right for you and your kitchen countertops. Granite is a natural stone, or rock, after all. You may not know this, but granite is actually second only to diamonds as far as the hardness of natural material. It’s also heat resistant, and while not recommended, it’s cool to know that (for whatever reasons) you can set a hot pan or pot directly on the surface of granite without damaging it. Also, with proper maintenance and no major accidents, granite could very well be the last change you make to your kitchen countertops.

Easy Maintenance

Granite, like almost all other natural stones that are commonly chosen countertop materials intended to withstand the above-average kitchen, needs to be sealed. It’s most commonly sealed by professionals during installation with the appropriate sealant, and in the appropriate manner and time, but can be DIY sealed as well. Either way, sealed granite resists staining and bacteria, and makes clearing debris and cleaning up spills very easy. If ease-of-maintenance is important to you (it is), then you have yourself another reason why granite is right for you!

Value Added

While industry experts usually classify the cost of granite as one of its cons, or downsides, it’s that (slightly more) expensive cost of granite that adds value to your home. Add that to granite’s popularity, and in the long run, you’ll find that your granite kitchen countertops will marginally increase the value of your home and make it more sellable. Add that to the fact that granite is very durable, repairable, and easily maintained, and you’re looking at a design choice that adds a ton of value!

Beautification

That most people have visual appeal as one of their primary goals when remodeling their kitchen means granite countertops are right for most anyone who is in the process. Granite is a natural stone that has a wide range of patterns and colors, and can be light, dark, or anywhere in between. Granite countertops quite literally make a kitchen pop, and appear sophisticated and luxurious at the very least.
