Countertops: Get Ready for the Holiday Season

The holiday season is all about spending quality time with your loved ones – from enjoying seasonal treats to creating DIY decor – no matter what you enjoy the most, ‘tis the season to enjoy it. The heart of the home year-round is the kitchen, and this saying reigns true even more so during the holiday season.

With all the delicious treats and meals you’ll be preparing, there’s sure to be a lot of time spent in the kitchen. While it’s important to maintain space on the countertops for preparation, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the festivities with a little holiday decor.

If you’re looking for some holiday spirit while preparing delicious meals for your family and friends, consider using these tips to spruce up your countertops.

Countertops: Natural elements

Take advantage of all that nature provides us and add some flare to your countertops with a mix of seasonal greenery. Intertwining holly, branches, and sprigs together will give your countertops that rustic feel while also not taking over your space.

To add to that, toss in some pinecones here and there to give your decor another element – and it’s super simple to spray paint pinecones for a splash of color and sparkle. Poinsettias are another great item that you can utilize as a beautiful centerpiece on your island countertop.

Countertops: Holiday coasters

While dinner is being prepared, snacks and drinks are always a must during the holiday season – wherever the food is, the people will be. With everyone crowding around your countertops socializing and enjoying the treats, coasters are going to be a big help to reduce stains and watermarks.

This creates the perfect opportunity to not only be proactive in keeping a clean area, but also to add holiday décor to your countertops as well. Before your guests arrive, pick up a set or two of seasonal coasters that complement your holiday theme.

Lighting

A less obvious, but very fun way you can decorate your countertop this year, is with LED rope lighting. String lights are generally used for the outside of the home, in the living areas, and definitely on the tree, but they can also give your kitchen that extra holiday spirit that it may be missing.

You can use LED lights around the edge of your countertops, as well as underneath the cabinets. Colorful or white lights, coupled with glittery décor, will make your kitchen shine and bring cheer to you and your loved ones.

Holiday trinkets

The countertop is a perfect place to create a picturesque holiday scene with little seasonal trinkets. Showcasing things like a ceramic tree, reindeer, or whatever holiday icons mean the most to you, surrounded by your natural décor is sure to bring in cozy elements.

With this, if you have any holiday dishware that you won’t be using, consider displaying them in different corners of your countertops.

As you decorate for the holidays, it’s common to start with the living area, which may include a tree or other meaningful decor, and the outside of the home for all of your guests to enjoy. If you think about it, you’re going to be spending quite some time in the kitchen, and you deserve to feel that holiday spirit, too.

By using these simple tips, you can spruce up your countertops while still maintaining enough room for you to prepare the delicious holiday meals and enjoy your time surrounded by friends and family.
